Trump Presidency

Most Americans Approve of President Trump Working With Democrats

Recently, President Trump reached across the aisle to work with Democrats.  His efforts brought aid to Hurricane Harvey victims and raised the debt ceiling until December.

Needless to say, the bipartisan move shook Republican politicians.  News outlets described them as “shell-shocked” and “visibly annoyed”.

However, a new poll says a majority of Americans respect the decision.  More than half of the survey takers believe working with Democrats is “good for the country”.

From Rasmussen:

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 66% of Likely U.S. Voters say it is good for the country if Trump works with congressional Democrats to advance his agenda. Just 13% think the bipartisan cooperation is bad for the country, while 21% are undecided.

While the every day man has praised the decisions, it drew many critics as well.  It is an unsurprising backlash since this move was controversial.

Conservative blogger Jay Caruso wrote:

Donald Trump got played like a grand piano by the political duo of Salieri Schumer and Pelosi The Great.

Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) was also not a fan.  The politician called the plan “devastating” to national defense.

Non-politician Republicans were more excited about the deal.  72% approved of Trump’s efforts.  Meanwhile, just a little over 60% of Democrats and Independents felt the same.

President Donald Trump has a disruptive agenda, and he gets a lot of pushback from Republicans.  If you need an example, look no further than The Wall.  The Wall was a hallmark of Trump’s campaign, but Republicans have ground the plan to a halt.  Thus, it comes as no surprise to see him reach across the aisle.

It’s no secret that President Trump is a different kind of Republican.  His views have shaken up Washington D.C.  In fact, it’s confused career politicians.  For example, Speaker Paul Ryan has flip flopped on his opinions of Trump.

Regardless, it is an admirable feat for the president to try and follow through on his campaign promises.  He’s a master of the deal, so he’s doing what he does best.

Rather than being a career politician, President Trump is marrying his business sense with the government.  In the remainder of his term, I would expect to see many more deals like this in the next few years.  It’s the only way anythign will get done.

Maybe the Establishment Senators and Congressmen need some of that counseling to adjust to the Trump agenda that they don’t seem to understand.
