HOORAH! Atleast 3,000 troops to be sent to kill ISIS once and for all

on

Expecting to cross President Donald Trump’s desk this week are the final proposals for a planned troop increase in Afghanistan. US officials say the likely increase range is 3,000 to 5,000 troops, but could be as low as 1,500. The increase would be to accelerate training missions for Afghan forces along with fighting the Taliban.
Already, Trump has given authority to set official troop levels in the fight against ISIS – namely in Iraq and Syria – to Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
National security adviser H.R. McMaster and Mattis are all for the troop increase, that’s currently being discussed at the Pentagon. Also being discussed is increasing the US’s financial investment in Afghanistan. But, a source says Trump’s chief strategist, Steve Bannon, and his small group of nationalists are expected to push back when those recommendations hit Trump’s desk.
Additional strategy options are being put on the table for Trump, including an outline for dealing with the Taliban. According to two US officials close to the proposal, one of those options is scaling up strikes against ISIS. However, the proposed strategy will maintain the Obama administration’s push toward reconciliation between the Taliban and the Afghan government.
It’s unclear when Trump will make a formal decision, but many sources believe a decision could come down by the end of the week.
