Condi Rice Throws Her Support Behind Trump: President Seeks What’s Best for America

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice defended President Donald Trump during an interview with CNBC on Wednesday, saying “while his language may be different,” he stands for America’s values, as have all presidents:

“I believe every president of the United States stands for our values. […] You heard President Trump say, for instance, after the Syrian chemical attack, ‘we can’t let that stand.’

What he was saying was the president of the United States can’t let that stand.”

Rice suggested that those who trash Trump over everything he says or tweets should take into account the fact that he’s only five months into his presidency:

“While the language may be different, and we might talk about needing to deal with policy, I think you’re going to see that the view that Americans’ interests in values are always linked will come around. It’s early days in this administration. Let’s remember that.”

Rice said Trump understands the value of alliances — particularly, democratic alliances:

“I think we’re going to see a president who understands the value of alliances, the value of democratic alliances. Democracies are amazing.

They don’t attack their neighbors. […] They don’t harbor terrorists, and so I think we’ll see that people understand that democracy is not just a moral cause, it’s a necessity in our modern world.”

When asked about the Russia investigation, Rice said she has confidence that special counsel Robert Mueller “will go to where the truth leads him.” But “in the meantime,” she said, “we need to get about the business of governing,” adding, “that’s really what the American people want.” Indeed it is.
