Harvey Weinstein Fired Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

After numerous allegations of sexual harassment were revealed by a New York Times exposé, famed movie mogul Harvey Weinstein is fired from The Weinstein Company.

What did The Weinstein Company say?

In a statement explaining the company’s actions:

“In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company — Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar — have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately.”

What is Weinstein accused of?

According to the New York Times report, Weinstein allegedly committed several acts of sexual harassment against eight women over several decades.

After the report was released, Lauren Sivan came forward with her story of alleged sexual harassment. Sivan says Weinstein committed a lewd act in front of her while blocking her from leaving a closed restaurant he invited her to. The event allegedly happened a decade ago. Weinstein announced he was taking a leave of absence.

What has the response been?

After many actors publicly decried sexual harassment allegations of others like President Trump, Weinstein’s allegations have tossed Hollywood and the entire entertainment industry into controversy, as actors and others are accused of keeping “the worse secret” in Hollywood. Of course, many actors and institutions are not publicly commenting at all.
