Long List of Leftists Who Cheered Venezuela’s Socialism Fall Silent

Once upon a time, Venezuela was a prosperous country.  It was on the verge of becoming a powerful country.  Enter Hugo Chavez in 1998.

Immediately, Chavez became a hero for the left.  Canadian author Naomi Klein continually praised his efforts.  On Venezuela, she wrote:

…citizens had renewed their faith in the power of democracy to improve their lives.

Sadly, there were countless others echoing these sentiments.  Unsurprisingly, the praise was only hear by the Left.  And when Chavez died in 2013, how they mourned!  Oliver Stone said simply:

I mourn a great hero to the majority of his people.

As you can see, Chavez was something of a god to the liberal/socialist agenda.  The ideals and controls he implemented on his people were seen as a “show and tell” that socialism works.

To the left, capitalism is a conspiracy that brings down the every day man.

Now, let’s fast forward to 2017.  According to the Los Angeles Times:

Eighty percent of Venezuelan bakeries don’t have flour. Eleven percent of children under 5 are malnourished, infant mortality has increased by 30% and maternal mortality is up 66%. The Maduro regime has met protests against its misrule with violence. More than 100 people have died in anti-government demonstrations and thousands have been arrested. Loyal police officers are rewarded with rolls of toilet paper.

Frankly, it’s not that hard to figure out what went wrong.  Chavez and his successors implemented socialist economic policies.  After the government took control of almost everything, the country was crippled.

From the Los Angeles Times:

For in the form of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the world has a petri dish in which to judge the sort of policies endorsed by Jones, Klein, British Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, homegrown socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders and countless other deluded utopians.

And guess what?

Not a single one of these people have made a comment on Venezuela.  Crickets.
