President Trump made a big concession to Democrats in DACA bill talks

President Donald Trump wants legislation protecting Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients passed quickly, and says he can live with putting a hold on the border wall to get it done.

Last week, Trump ended DACA, a Barack Obama amnesty program, and gave Congress a six-month grace period to fix it so the hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients aren’t deported. Wednesday, Trump met with centrist lawmakers, promising not to tie the border wall to any amnesty legislation.

But Trump didn’t totally throw border security out the window. Representative Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) told The Hill Trump wants to include parts of the RAISE Act, a bill by Republican Senators Tom Cotton and David Perdue, in amnesty legislation.

The RAISE Act would:

  • Institute a merit-based immigration system, favoring the highly skilled and highly educated
  • Cut legal immigration by half over the next 10 years

Some Democrats won’t like that because trying to add RAISE Act provisions into a Dreamer bill could leave out a large portion of Democratic voters, which could derail progress on amnesty legislation. This only proves why it’s so hard to get large-scale immigration legislation passed.

Wednesday, House Speaker Paul Ryan met with Democratic lawmakers, which includes House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, along with an anonymous Republican source, who says the topic of discussion was border enforcement. No other details of the meeting have been released… yet!

Wednesday night, Trump met with Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for dinner. Democratic leaders issued a statement saying they have a willingness to “enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides.”

Thanks for the anal intercourse without lubricant Mr. Trump. You WILL NOT get my vote in 2020. I am fully behind The Federalist Party now.
