Once the darling of Liberals for her scholarly research about feminism, Christine Hoff Sommers’ words now burn the ears of Snowflakes.  Alt-Left haters threatened violence to prevent others from hearing Sommers’ speech last month.  The “Dean of Diversity*” at Lewis & Clark Law School, in Portland, Oregon, who doesn’t believe in diversity of thought & speech, cut Sommers short halfway through her speech and asked her to leave.  Afterwards, Sommers tweeted:

“Diversity Dean at Lewis & Clark was present.  She approached podium in middle of my talk & asked me to wrap up my speech & take questions.  I was never able to develop my argument.  Shouldn’t the dean have insisted protesters allow me to finish, rather than cut speech short?”

The Federalist Society had invited American Enterprise Institute Scholar Christine Hoff Sommers to speak to their fellow law school students on March 5th.  When Antifa found out about the invitation, they issued their call to arms claiming her invitation was “an act of aggression and violence towards members of our community who experience racial and gendered oppression.”

We call on the Federalist Society to rescind their invitation to have Christina Sommers speak on campus,” the statement reads. “Free speech is certainly and (sic) important tenant (sic, should be “tenet”) to a free, healthy society, but that freedom stops when it has a negative and violent impact on other individuals.”

In their statement the Federalist Society stated “We wish to strongly oppose the labeling of our guest Christina Hoff Sommers as a ‘known fascist,’” the Federalist Society said in a statement. “She has stood in support of free expression, individuality, and against the oppressive cloak that extreme collectivists are known all too well to wear.  Moreover, we hope that such a misapplied label is only a rash mistake, and not a deliberate attempt to justify shutting down the pursuit of free and rational discourse by any means possible.”

The Federalist Society released a statement correcting the law students, noting that Hoff Sommers’ work actually is in support of women and sexual assault survivors, and of those who are oppressed because of their race or ethnicity.

“We will not subscribe to the belief that we must tamp down on speech due to discomfort,” it adds.  “It is crucial to our school, our profession, our culture, and our nation to engage in difficult dialogue.”

The violence and aggression Antifa** students are talking about here is speech.  In their demand letter they said “Free speech is certainly an important tenet to a free, healthy society, but that freedom stops when it has a negative and violent impact on other individuals.  There is no debate here.”  Violence?  The only violence at these events is committed by Antifa.

Antifa’s letter is delusional:

A minority of students believe their dislike of a speaker should prevent everyone else from getting a chance to listen or engage that person’s ideas.  Inevitably, the further Left the student is, the more likely he or she is to believe speech is the equivalent of violence and therefore must be stopped before it happens.

In these campus incidents, most students want to listen to the speaker and ask questions at the appropriate time.  A small cabal of haters are resolutely opposed to any speech that offends them, on grounds that said speech is itself a form of violence against weak-minded Snowflakes.

Students laugh at the Antifa thugs who take over the classroom with their asinine behavior.

Many of these Antifa members will become tomorrow’s lawyers.  We already have too many First Amendment haters among lawyers.  What will happen to America if all our lawyers hate the First Amendment?  Will we have political prisons where people are sent if they voice a thought that is not approved by the “political elite?”

* Dean of Diversity?  What, oh, what is that?  What are her duties?  To keep white students in line?  To ferret out Conservatives on campus to be sure they keep their mouths shut?  This is a private law school and tuition is high.  Why should any student pay good money to be insulted and slapped down?

**The “educated” Antifa members are hiding behind the cloak of law school organizations called:  Women’s Law Caucus, Portland National Lawyers Guild, Jewish Law Society, Minority Law Student Association, Immigration Student Group, Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter, Outlaw, Black Law Student Society, and the Latino Law Society.  They all signed a letter protesting free speech.

About Diane L. Gruber

I am a proud American who is tired of biting my tongue for fear of making a Liberal mad; for fear of being called racist because I believe in the Rule of Law; for fear of damaging my license to practice law. NO MORE!!!! Conservative-minded citizens have stayed silent for decades while Liberals have caused significant damage to American culture and to our nation. I lived in a Third-World Dictatorship. Generation after generation had been trained to kow tow to the government. They were afraid to discuss ANYTHING about the government even in the privacy of their own homes. My "Time" magazine arrived with articles cut out, after the censors got through checking it for heresy. With Political Correctness and "hate speech" rules, we are already halfway to officially losing our precious Freedom of Speech. If we want anything of value to remain for future generations we need to act now, rally in the streets now, speak out now. Don't be cowed.
